Yreka Emergency Bridge Repair

Emergency ResponseOn May 22nd 2012 Caltrans notified Myers and Sons Construction that a Simi truck transporting a large over height excavator had hit a concrete girder bridge on Hwy 5 near Yreka. The bridge had extensive damage and they had detoured Northbound Hwy 5 around the bridge. The Resident Engineer of a nearby Caltrans project asked us to shore up the bridge and remove span 2, the section of bridge going over North Bound Hwy 5.
That afternoon we began trucking material and mobilizing personal to Yreka. That night we built and installed the support towers to support the bridge and the following day we had the demo subcontractor remove the damaged span of bridge form the column in the center medium to the abutment on the east side. North bound Hwy 5 was reopened early the next morning.
