Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing Poly Concrete Overlay

The 3.1-mile twin span cable-stayed bridge with angled main span towers is the single largest bridge construction project in New York’s history. The bridge will revitalize the existing Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Toll Bridge that connects Rockland County to Westchester County over the Hudson River.
Tappan Zee Constructors LLC (TZC), comprised of Fluor Enterprises, Inc., American Bridge Company, Granite Construction Northeast, Inc., and Traylor Bros., Inc., formed a joint venture that combines local, national, and international experience to design and construct the New NY Bridge. TZC received an executed contract and a notice to proceed (NTP) in January 2013. The project is currently underway, and the team has established offices in Tarrytown, New York. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2018.
Renowned for its safety and reliability, the 570-mile New York State Thruway plays a vital role in the state's transportation and economic infrastructure, linking the New York City metropolitan area to upstate and serving hundreds of millions of motorists from around the state, throughout the northeast and around the country. The existing Tappan Zee Bridge, built in 1955, now serves more than 138,000 vehicles per day, far exceeding the amount it was designed to carry. The new bridge is designed to meet the needs of a growing community while supporting cultural and economic growth in the process. As the longest and most complex crossing in the New York State Thruway system, it will have the ability to support more lanes, a pedestrian and bicycle path and even a proposed mass-transit system. Myers and Sons Construction will be a subcontractor applying a Polyester Concrete overlay to the entire deck, this work will take place over three years.
